We Happy Few has been refused classification in Australia (effectively banning it for now)

Developers are trying to find a solution and get it reclassified, but if it remains unclassified we can probably see it unavailable here in NZ as well, as we often just use Australia's classification.

If it remains banned, the developers have promised to work with affected Kickstarter backers.

Aussies have sometimes refused to classify a game, but we've still got it in NZ i think.

Depends on the company, we dont use the same ratings as Australia instead it comes down to market share. Generally when things get refused in Australia they dont bother trying NZ as we basically aren't worth the money to them. It isn't cheap getting things a classification and when Australia did the whole no R18 games thing we really suffered. It isn't often we refuse things Manhunt, Manhunt 2 and Postal are the only things off the top of my head we have banned other times they generally didn't even bother trying us after Australia said no.

Cheers Zombie, I was under the impression that we generally took Australia's ratings!

Upon closer investigation that's only the case for G, PG and M content that we use their rating for without classifying it ourselves, anything restricted or banned there does get classified independently here, if it is submitted.

Since this morning I've also seen reported that we've given it R13 here, so it's safe, but also conflicting reports that that's only the preview and the full game is yet to be classified. ?

Dosn't that summerise why a game in general dosn't get classification rather then why this game specifically didn't get it?

Australia pretty much blanket everything that has an ounce of drugs use and ban it.

Fallout 3 got banned till they changed the drugs in the game to things like mentats and Med-X.

And since We Happy Few has a pretty big drug related part to it we can assume this is what lead them to the ban. Though Joy isn't a real drug so its possible with the tie ins of drug addiction and mental health they just said no. But really its Australia where the blind lead the blind.

They're quickly becoming a powerhouse in the gaming sector

They already own a decent amount of the likes of EPIC, RIOT, SUPERCELL & keep adding more.

Luckily (at this stage anyways) they're a silent partner just in it for dat cash moneys

But seriously, me, a workmate and a few others feel that being a companion for someone would be a mega cool addition.

This was my number 2 thought, cash grab but it take too long to make a whole new fallout (7 years for 4 wasn't it?) Number 1 thought was for a 3 and New Vegas remaster. That said JS at Kotaku seems to suggest that we won't guess what it is. Maybe a TV series??
